Glossary

Terms that come up when people talk about AI, automation and websites.

AI agent

A program that uses a language model to understand a request and take actions, such as replying, querying a system or booking, instead of only generating text.

API

A standard way for one system to talk to another. One side makes requests, the other answers with data.

Automation

Automatic execution of a task someone used to repeat by hand. The computer follows fixed rules or uses AI.

Backup

A copy of data used to recover it after loss or failure. Test that the copy can restore what was saved.

Chatbot

A program that talks by message. It can follow a fixed script or use AI to understand what the person wrote.

Core Web Vitals

Google's three page-experience metrics: LCP (loading, target 2.5 s or less), INP (response to taps, 200 ms or less) and CLS (layout stability, 0.1 or less).

CRM

A system that stores customers, contacts and the history of each deal.

ERP

A management system that brings finance, inventory, tax and purchasing into one place.

Idempotency

A property that lets an operation be repeated without duplicating its effect. For payments, it prevents a retry from creating another charge for the same order.

Integration

A link between two systems so they share data on their own, usually through an API or a webhook.

Landing page

A page with a single goal, built for an ad, a launch or to capture leads.

LGPD

Brazil's General Data Protection Law (Law No. 13,709/2018). It sets how companies may collect, use and store personal data in Brazil.

LLM (language model)

An AI model trained on large amounts of text to read and write natural language. Claude, Gemini and GPT are examples.

MVP

The smallest version of a product that already solves the main problem. It lets you test with real users before building the rest.

No-code

Tools that let you build automations and apps with little or no code, such as Zapier and n8n.

Offline

Use without an internet connection. A system must define which tasks remain available and how data will be sent when the connection returns.

Permissions

Rules defining which data each user may read and which actions they may perform. The server must check these rules rather than only hiding buttons.

Prompt

The text instruction you give an AI model. A good prompt says what to do, with which information and in what format to answer.

PWA

A web application that can offer installation on a device and features such as offline use. Installation and capabilities depend on the browser, operating system and what was built.

RAG

A technique where the AI looks up the company's documents before answering. The reply combines your information with what the model learned in training.

Rate limit

A restriction on how frequently an application may call an API. HTTP status 429 indicates too many requests; the server may say how long to wait before retrying.

Responsive

A layout that adapts to the screen size, from a phone to a large monitor.

SaaS

Software sold as a service: people use it over the internet and usually pay a subscription.

SEO

The practices that help a page get found and rank well on search engines like Google.

Structured data

Code people do not see on the page that tells search engines what the content is: a business, a service, an article, an FAQ.

Tenant isolation

Controls that prevent one business from accessing another business’s data or resources in shared software such as SaaS.

Token

A chunk of text an AI model processes. It is the unit used to measure usage and calculate cost.

Webhook

An automatic notice one system sends to another when something happens, like an approved payment or a new order.

WhatsApp Business API

WhatsApp's official version for businesses that automate customer service. Meta charges per delivered message, by category and country.
